Ola Nilsson fifth in close Scirocco R-Cup race
at Lausitzring Just as expected the Volkswagen Scirocco
R-Cup would once again invite to a close fight
when the championship had their fourth race for
the season. The Swedish National Racingteam
driver Ola Nilsson ended up at P5.
Ola once more showed good pace in the qualifying
session when Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup visited
Lausitzring this weekend. He set the second
quickest lap in the 27 men strong field only 7
hundreds of a second behind the american James
Mobley. The race turned out to be a very close
battle between the front runners and Ola fell
down from second to fifth in the first couple of
laps.
– The race is the part of the weekend
which I’m not completely satisfied with
during an otherwise great weekend, says Ola.
I know I have the speed but at the moment
I’m a little bit too nice and that isn’t
working.
From fifth the Swede couldn’t really attack
up through the field. The result gives him more
valuable points in the championship and he is
still running sixth.
– There are things I need to work on in
the races for me to be a serious candidate
to taking a lot of podium finishes, Ola
tells. My aim is high, and I will keep on
working to climb in the championship.
The Brit Daniel Lloyd won the race. Next race
is in two weeks, the 1-3 of July, when the only
cityrace of the season is held at Norisring.

(110617) Ola Nilsson up against Moto2
leader Stefan Bradl on Lausitzring This weekend Ola Nilsson and the
Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup drives there third
race weekend of the season. As always the
championship delivers an exciting entry list
regarding their invited guest drivers. This
weekend the “legend” comes from the world of
motorcycling.
After a podium finish at Red Bull Ring in
Austria two weeks ago he will come to
Lausitzring with great potential for more top
finishes in the tough championship. At the
moment there are no less than six different
nationalities represented among top 8.
– The championship is as expected even
more competitive than last year, which is
great for my own development as a driver,
says Ola. I’ve had really good pace during
qualification at the two first races this
year and hopefully that trend keeps going.
The “legends” will this weekend comes from
the world of motorcycling. Among them is the
current championship leader in Moto2 Stefan
Bradl.
– Stefan got to join us during pre season
testing at Oscherleben in April and showed
good pace, it’s going to be interesting to
see how he performs.

Ring Race 1 Highlights

(110607) Ola Nilsson takes a podium
finish in Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup
Ola Nilsson, the only Swedish driver in the
Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup, claimed third place
in the first race of the weekend at Red Bull
Ring in Austria. He started out in the first row
after the qualification, in which Nilsson came
in second – even though he got the two best lap
times deleted.
- It was such a great feeling to take a podium
finish in the beginning of the season and it
definitely encourage me to keep going, says Ola
Nilsson. The judges reckoned I used to much of
the tarmac outside of the racetrack in two of my
laps and therefore they deleted the times of
those laps. I can agree in one of the cases, but
in the other one I’m doubtful. Though I have no
choice but to trust that they made the correct
decision. The pace was really good all weekend
and I’m going to keep on working the same way.
As a result of the third place in race one, Ola
started out in the sixth position in the second
race. Nilsson got stuck alot of traffic and
finished the race in ninth place after have lost
some positions towards the sharp Remus-curve in
the first lap.
The racecars are equipped with a system called "Push-To-Pass",
which means the driver can push a button that
gives you extra 50 hp over a ten seconds period.
This system can be used 15 times in a race and
can altogether do about two seconds in a lap.
The technology is developed to ease the
overtaking and usually it works perfect, but in
this race everyone pushed the button at the same
time, which then makes no difference. It was
quite a frustrating end of the weekend since I
had at least as good pace as in the first race,
but altogether I’m satisfied with weekend.
The two winners of the weekend were Mateusz
Lisowski and Stefano Proetto. Ola Nilsson is now
in sixth place and eleven points from top three
in the championship after two deltävlingar. Next
race in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-cup is the
17th-18th of June at the German Lausitzring.

Ola Nilsson is driving the red #23 Scania and

(110502) Ola Nilsson – fourth in the
championship after season start at Hockenheim
Ola Nilsson started the season in the Volkswagen
Scirocco R-Cup with finishing fourth during the
DTM weekend at Hockenheim.
Already at the practice session Ola showed a
good pace at the racetrack, and qualified strong
with P3 as a result. After a good start in the
race, he ended up in the outside line through
the first corner, which made him fall down to
fourth place.
- I got a really good start and the idea
was to try and round the "pole-sitter" on
the outside, but it didn’t quite turn out
that way, says Ola.
The two “legends” Nicola Larini and Uwe Alzen
who were guest drivers in the race, meaning they
don’t get any points in the summary, chased Ola
and made some attempts to climb towards the top.
Ola made no resistance knowing their positions
in the race wouldn’t count in the end. He
finished therefore sixth in the premiere race of
the season and is now fourth in the
championship.
- I know that the most important part is
to take the car over the finish line in
every race. During the 2010 season, a DNF
made the potential for a top position out of
reach.
The racecars are equipped with a system
called "Push-To-Pass", which means the driver
can push a button that gives you 50 hp extra
over a ten seconds period. This system can be
used 15 times in a race and can altogether do
about two seconds in a lap if you use it
perfectly.
- I'm not totally satisfied with the
race. I didn’t really have the pace in the
opening laps and as I can see afterwards,
also some incorrect tactics of the “pushes”.
Although, the speed is there and I have good
potential for future races, says Ola.
The winner of the race was Mateusz Lisowski
from Poland, second place went to the British
driver Daniel Lloyd. Next race will be held at
Red Bull Ring in Austria the first weekend in
June.
